This week the children have been using the herby Playdough to practise their cutting skills.  Thy have rolled and squashed the playdough into different shapes, before using the knife and fork to cut it.  This is a great way for the children to practise their knife and fork skills as well as strengthening their hands and fingers to aid their writing.

How about making some Playdough at home?  You can add in food colouring nd or scented essences too!

Playdough Recipie: 1 cup of plain flour, half cup of salt, 1 table spoon of oil, 2table spoons of creme of tarte. 1 cup of water (add in slowly, may need slightly more/less)

Mix all the ingredients together in a saucepan, adding in the water slowly and stiring. Once it forms a dough, remove from the heat and leave to cool.

We’re going on safari!

This week in the sand the children have been role playing with safari animals.  They have used the animals in a variety of ways. One way was to explain their knowledge of the animals.  Another was to use the animals to make up a story.  You could use props at home or make puppets to role play with your child.

This week as part of our topic on growth the children have planted cress seeds.  They have looked at the seeds in comparison with the beans we planted earlier in the week and have discussed the differences.  They followed a set of instructions to plant the seeds.  Over the next week they will water the seeds and also discuss the changes as well as the similarities and differences between the cress and beans.  Next week you’ll learn what we do with the cress!  Can your child remember?
